I recently did a little something something and I was rewarded with some CoC (The jokes will NEVER stop). I can’t wait to start painting them up! I will be trying out oil washes with these suckas. The whole reason why I got into Warmachine was because of the warjacks. I know this force can run 5-6 Vectors (Warjacks) without any problems thanks to their FI (Focus Induction) ability. YAY! MOAR ROBOTS!!!

Mercenaries Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator…

This model has a ton of character as a lot of the Gobbers do. I still have never actually used him yet but I have some fellow Khador friends that make use him frequently. He was a pretty simple and a really fast paint job. I am really looking forward to the new Gobber Tinker! I can never get enough Magenta hence his pants. Khador Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey…

Vladimir Tzepesci, Great Prince of Umbrey a.k.a. Vlad3 is finally done. I have fielded him a few times and he’s been pretty fun, but I definitely need more cavalry models overall. He has a pretty solid spell list and can be pretty cool even if you have minimal cavalry when you use a lot of REACH models who can take advantage of DASH. He was pretty time consuming to paint since he has a decent amount of trim everywhere. I did end up chopping off some of the rear part of the handle by the hand since it was so thin and was on the verge of breaking off and pinned it. I don’t know whether I will be fielding him with a mass cavalry force down the road but I definitely want to play him some more using more Doom Reavers units

Hordes Minions Bog Trog Warlock Rask…

Rask is everything us Blindwater players have been wanting and asking for. His spell list is pretty damn amazing and he is only limited by the few options Blindwater gets model-wise. The model has a lot of little details all over but I was still able to finish him in one painting session. I’ve played him numerous times and really love his versatility. He’s able to create decent threat ranges and harass both Warmachine and Hordes with his ammo choices for his ranged weapon. He also makes the option of replacing your Blackhide Wrastler with the Swamp Horror more viable to do his spell list. Now if we only had access to more magic weapons. DAMN YOU CRYX AND MENOTH!!!

Hosting my first Steamroller Tournament…

I recently had the pleasure of organizing my first official Steamroller tournament at my LGS. My ultimate goal is to gradually bring more of our casual players into the tournament scene since that is the best way to learn about your army in a variety of circumstances when scenarios are in play. Plus their usually just plain fun! Our store is one of the smaller ones in SoCal so we have a limited capacity and I made it only 3 rounds so it wouldn’t intimidate too many of the newcomers. This makes it more intimate plus going 4 or more rounds can drain a lot of people. We have plenty of other stores that offer the “full tournament” experience in SoCal meta so there are options for more serious tournament players. It also makes it much easier for people to attend since they know it will only take up 5-6 hours rather than 8 or more.

One of our players happens to be a terrain master and so I teamed up with him to create custom flags and objectives to give our tournaments a little more personality. Also with the help of some players that attend tournaments more frequently we were able to get enough chess clocks to make it a Deathclock tournament instead of timed turns which can discourage newbies.

All in all it was a great turn out with a decent faction spread. Everyone had a blast and I was happy that several players that attend tournaments frequently told me that it was ran really well and everything went super smooth with the overall tournament time. Most of the players were self-sufficient and I was only needed a handful of times. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of players for my first time. I can’t wait for next month and enjoy the pics below!

Mercenaries Orin Midwinter…

The first time I ran into Orin Midwinter was a game on Vassal. I thought his different abilities were pretty cool and decided to pick him up. The one powerful ability he has is being able to deter spell casting within 12″ of him. it’s odd because you would think it would be his CMD and this does throw some people off. It’s pretty legit if he has proper backup or something he can hide behind. The model I got had a irregular molding on the staff’s orb between it’s pincers so I decided to just cut it off completely. I know it’s a older model but I thought the need to have separate pieces for his non-staff hand and the back end of the stuff wasn’t needed. I hope to use him in some future tournaments as a sideboard as I have only used him a handful a times in casual games.

Khador Greylord Ternion Unit…

I decided to paint this unit up in the hopes of running the NQ#34 Hunting Wolves Tier list for Zerkova this year sometime. These models were also the first time I used a alternative black wash. Instead of Badab Black I used Army Painter Ink Dark Tone. The results were solid and I would dare to even say it’s better than Badab Black! It doesn’t have the crazy smell either. The flow of the ink was superior and I found I could push and pull the ink around more. It is also harder to pool spots so it looks generally smoother on flatter surfaces as well. So if your looking for a proper replacement to Badab Black and Devlan Mud, I highly recommend checking out the Army Painter Inks!

Khador Koldun Kommander Aleksandra Zerkova…

I actually haven’t got to use her yet but wanted to finish her up in time for the new Greylord Outriders. Shes seems like she could be pretty viable for scenario play while running a Conquest. I’ll soon be putting her on the table to test out some theories in my LGS’ League. Too bad she is labeled as one of the worst casters in Warmachine lol!

Minions Swamp Horror Heavy Warbeast…

So the second I heard about this model awhile ago I instantly thought it would be a great model to try out water effects. I finally put him on the painting table because of Rask. The thought of him with FURY would make anybody giddy. The problem of course was doing a simple conversion to make it water effects ready without having to go through the hassle of sculpting. I made this very simple TUTORIAL on how to do that. It took me several days to finish the water effects since each layer requires about 24 hours to dry and you can only layer it about 1/8″ deep at a time. Besides that I saved a lot of time on painting since it’s only a portion of the original model. Since the water dries clear you also have to paint the base itself or base it with other elements if desired. I decided to paint a mix of colors using browns and greens for that dirty Bayou look. For being my first model using water effects I am pretty happy with the results!

Khador Man-O-War Drakhun Dragoon…

I was advised awhile ago by a national tournament player to try this guy out. I put him off to the side for awhile but got motivated to finally finish him up when Vlad3 came out. I’ve used him only a handful of times, but overall I am pretty happy with his tabletop performance. He might be easy to hit but having heavy warjack-like armor and steady helps his survivability. Another ability he has that tends to catch opponents off guard who haven’t played him before is counter-charge. I guess people assume this heavy metal cavalry doesn’t have the chops to react fast…but oh yes he does. Khador also usually has the highest POW on their mount attacks and his is stronger than those. Strafe the flanks Drakhun, strafe I say!!!
