TUTORIAL – Badab Black Wash Blues…make your own washes!

Ohhhhh GW. So GW has changed their entire paint line with all new names as well as a different production plant. My LGS got the whole new entire line and I was able to test out Nuln Oil which is the new replacement for Badab Black. Unfortunately it’s very different and doesn’t flow as well as Badab. It tends to cling on to flat surfaces and leaves a much thicker layer of darkness compared to good old Badab Black. Fortunately I did buy some extra bottles before the switch. Hopefully I have enough to finish both my main forces. Since the new Nuln Oil is a game changer for me I will probably start making my own black wash ink. Check the video below to see how!

  1. Yeah a lot of people seem upset at the changes to the washes in particular, but the on the plus side I hear the new Foundaition/Bases taste better. πŸ˜‰

Also I’ve noticed this WordPress theme is becoming more popular in miniature painting circles. I’m pretty sure I used it first. πŸ˜›

    • Oh I love the foundation paints…but the bread and butter for me was the washes/inks. I haven’t come across any other that flowed as well as their “old” line. Sad panda time.

  2. Cool. Been thinking about doing this, as Ive had good results with liquidtex inks but have never got good results from Badad black. Was nice to watch, been making very small amounts to use, but this has inspired me to make some in bulk. Thanks for taking the time to share this. πŸ™‚

    • No problem! I still have a couple vials left of my Badab black, but when I am on my last I will be messing around with bulk making as well ;p
